Dependant Pass

The Uganda Dependent Pass is an essential immigration document that permits certain family members of a legally established resident or a Ugandan citizen to live in the country. This pass is issued to the following foreign dependents: a spouse, children (typically under 18 years old), and other near relatives or household members.

• Dependents of Foreign Residents: If the principal applicant is a foreign resident, they must provide proof of legal stay in Uganda, such as a valid Work Permit, Student Pass, or Certificate of Residence.

• Dependents of Ugandan Citizens: If the principal applicant is a Ugandan citizen, they can apply for a pass for their foreign spouse, child, or other relative.

Eligibility

The pass is typically granted to the following dependents of a principal applicant who is a foreign resident or Ugandan citizen:

• Spouse (legally married).

• Children (usually those under 18 years of age).

• Other near relatives/members of the household (proof of relationship is usually required).

  
  

Key Requirements (General)

While specific documents vary slightly for a spouse versus a child, the general requirements for the dependent and the principal applicant often include:

• Proof of Legal Stay for the principal applicant (e.g., copy of their Work Permit, Student Pass, or Certificate of Residence).

• Proof of Relationship (e.g., Marriage Certificate for a spouse, Birth Certificate for a child).

• Dependent's Passport Copy (Bio-data page) with at least 6 months validity.

• Recent Passport-size Photograph of the dependent.

• Cover letter or diplomatic note from the principal applicant.

• Principal's Passport Copy.

• The principal applicant must demonstrate they can provide adequate accommodation and sufficient income to maintain the dependent.

Fees

The fees are non-refundable and vary based on the dependent's relationship:

• Spouse:  $350

• Child: $200

• Other relatives: $1000

Application Process

The application is generally done online through the official Uganda Immigration Portal. The steps typically involve:

• Step 1: Log into the Immigration Portal and select start new application

• Step 2: Accept the terms and conditions displayed in the Disclaimer.

• Step 3: Select the visa or permit type, category and sub category

• Step 4: Complete the application form

• Step 5: Upload the required documents; a six-digit application ID eg. (234790123) is automatically generated as the reference number

• Step 6: Make payment for applications that require prepayment.

• Step 7: Upon approval, for application that don’t require top up payment, an approval letter will be generated and emailed to the applicant on the home page

• Step 8: Upon approval, make a top up payment for applications that require a top up payment. After payment an approval letter is generated and emailed to the client

• Step 9: Report to the immigration office/ border for biometric capture with all documents uploaded, payment receipts, approval letter and passport
